Using interviews and photographs of witnesses and survivors, Fresh Memories tells the stories of Tibetans who have risked their lives escapeing into exile in the years following the Tibetan uprising of 2008. The project aims to give evidence of the real situation on the ground in Tibet from these first hand accounts.Looking for a London Exhibition Space for Summer
Fresh memories is looking to exhibit in London in summer 2012.
There is little doubt that the Beijing Olympics and the uprising which spread across Tibet in March 2008 are deeply connected. This summer, as the Olympics comes to London, we are presented with a chance to look upon the legacy which the Olympic movement and the Chinese Communist Party have left Tibetans.
A photographic exhibition has the potential to reach an enormous number of people from around the world, as a record number of international visitors are expected to visit London this year. Fresh Memories sees the posibility to once again use the Olympic Games as a platform to discuss the situation in Tibet, which shows no sign of improving.
The UK will also have one other important visitor this summer, one who will not be going for the sport. From June 16th – 23rd His Holyness the Dalai Lama will be touring the UK giving a series of teachings, visiting London on June 19th. The visit also coincides with the London Festival of Photography which will be taking place over the month of June. We feel that an exhibition that is able to link these three events has a huge potential to be a great success.
